Donald Trump has won the all important swing state of Florida.
Along with North Carolina and Ohio, The South Eastern state was deemed as a vital battleground, and one that would go a long way to deciding the outcome of the election.
The sunshine state has also voted in conjunction with the winner in 9 of the last 10 elections, proving it is a good indicator as to who will emerge victorious.
Obama won Florida by less than a percent back in 2012, and it took a supreme court ruling to decide the outcome of the Florida vote back in 2000.
Bournemouth University’s US correspondent Adam Goacher, reporting from the University of Maryland, said students shed tears of sadness and worry when Trump claimed Florida.
In a further boost to the Republican party, Senator Marco Rubio, a onetime presidential hopeful, won re-election in Florida in a hard-fought contest that could help thwart Democratic hopes to take over the Senate.
