With Donald Trump currently edging Hillary Clinton in the race for the Whitehouse, Virginia is a state which could be vital for the Democratic candidate to win if she is to stand any chance of catching her rival.
Though with Trump now strongly favoured to become the USA’s next President, Ellie Pare, a student who attends UVA University has described the current mood in the state.
She said: “You can literally cut the tension with a knife, so many people are terrified. Virginia is such an important state and could determine everything and that’s so much pressure.
“I’m at an election party for Jane Dittmar and we’ve lost in the House of Representatives election. It’s all quite depressing because we’ve all worked so hard to get her elected over Tom Garrett who’s basically a mini version of Donald Trump and we don’t need any more of that in the house.
“Basically tonight I’m either celebrating the saving of democracy and our country as we know it, or commiserating with my friends over the soul crushing weight of the next 4-8 years. Everyone is on edge.”
