USA VOTES 2016

Donald Trump plans ‘to sue’ Nevada officials over poll extension

Republican presidential hopeful, Donald Trump, is planning to sue Nevada officials after the voting poll was kept open for an additional three hours yesterday evening.

Trumps’ camp are not happy that polling stations were left open longer than they should have been.

This appears to have happened because of the huge influx of early voters which ultimately meant queues were still ongoing hours after the scheduled close of 7pm. Nevada is seen as a key battleground for both the Democrats and Republicans with 6 electoral votes up for grabs, 1.1 percent of the total 538 votes.

Nevada’s Republican chair, Michael McDonald publicly questioned the extension saying: “The polls are supposed to close at seven. This was kept open until 10.”

“Yeah, you feel free right now? You think this is a free and easy election?

That’s why it’s important.”

If Trumps’ lawsuit is successful it would see early votes set aside if Nevada is close.

As a result, this could mean that thousands of ballots would be left out of the count, an outcome which could easily sway the election result in Trumps favour.

Under election law, anyone who is seen to be in the queue to cast their vote must be able to do so- even if that does indeed happen after the scheduled close time.
