The Californian public have voted in favour of legalising recreational use of majijuana, in a vote that was put to the ballot alongside the Presidential Election.
‘Proposition 64’ was approved, 6 years after it was previously rejected, meaning California is now the largest populous state in the US to legalise marijuana.
The initiative allows Californians of 21 years and older to possess, transport, buy and use up to an ounce of cannabis for recreational purposes and allow individuals to grow as many as six plants. Retail sales of marijuana is now also legal.
California isn’t the only state to legalise marijuana on election night, Massachusetts has also followed suit.
This has come as welcome news to many Americans, include famous supporter of cannabis legalisation, Snoop Dogg.
