Hello from Washington DC. We made it – and we are vlogging and blogging the trip to get you behind the scenes of our US Election coverage.
Adam Goacher, Jason Lewis and I (Luke Hastings) are out on-location in Washington D.C to cover the election live.
After a very pleasant eight hour journey across the Atlantic, we flew over The White House and into Washington.
After watching a film or two, we decided to take on a different type of on-board entertainment by playing ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’.
We REALLY wanted to win that virtual million pounds. So much so that we ended up playing it for just under four hours…
After the heartbreak of finally getting to the million pound question and of course getting it wrong (thanks Jason), we landed and got an Uber to our hotel.
On arrival at our Holiday Inn, we were faced with cardboard cut-outs of Trump and Clinton, as well as some bobble-heads of the two Presidential hopefuls.
Listening to the radio and watching TV confirmed that the US have gone election crazy with just two days left until we find out who will be getting the keys to The White House.
After grabbing some very nice burgers for dinner, we wondered back to the hotel to settle down ahead of a big day tomorrow.
Tomorrow we’re meeting our University of Maryland contact Jim Carroll in the morning to be shown around Washington DC. To add to that we’ll be taking a trip to College Park at UMD to rehearse ahead of Tuesday’s coverage and then going to watch the Washington Wizards play basketball tomorrow evening.
Here’s a vlog of Day 1 from DC…
